Pinpoint is a Chrome extension and website that lets people in a video call mark an area of a shared screen and comment on it together. This page explains what Pinpoint collects, why, who can see it, and how to delete it.
In short: Pinpoint only takes a picture of your screen when you mark an area, and everyone in your session is told. Only people in your session can see what you share. There are no ads, no tracking and no selling of data.
What Pinpoint collects
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your display name and colour | When you add your name, or change it in Customise | So your team knows who wrote each comment |
| A guest account (a random ID and a random password Pinpoint makes for you) | The first time you open Pinpoint | To keep your comments yours and your sessions private. No email address is asked for. |
| A picture of the visible tab | Only when you mark an area and the host allows captures | So the comment shows what was on screen |
| Your comments and replies, and where on the screen they point | When you post them | To show threads and pins to your session |
| A one-way code made from the meeting link (a SHA-256 hash), never the link itself | When you open Pinpoint in a Meet, Zoom or Teams call | So people in the same call land in the same session |
| The page address (without anything after a ? or #) | Only for marks you make on an ordinary web page, not on a call | So those marks show on the right page |
| Your pointer position and pen lines | While you use Pointer or Pen | Sent live to people in your session. Never stored. |
| Your Customise choices | When you change them | Kept in your browser only. Never sent to us. |
Pinpoint does not read your meeting audio or video, chat, contacts, email or browsing history. It does not run on any page until you click its icon on that page.
Who can see it
- Only members of your session can see its pictures, comments and pins.
- Everyone in a session is told by name each time someone captures the screen.
- Pictures are stored privately and opened through links that stop working after one hour.
- We never sell your information, show ads or use it for anything other than running Pinpoint. There is no analytics or tracking code in the extension or the website.
Services we use
Pinpoint stores data with Supabase (database, file storage and live updates) and runs its website on Vercel. They process data only to provide those services. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and protected by access rules that let only session members read it.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it
- Threads, comments and pictures stay until someone deletes them.
- You can delete your own threads and comments at any time.
- The host of a session can delete any thread, or the whole session with every picture in it.
- To delete your account and everything you posted, email bryanonyenghan@gmail.com. We reply within 30 days.
Sensitive information
The host can turn screen captures off for everyone, for example while private information is on screen. When captures are off, Pinpoint refuses to upload pictures at all. Pinpoint cannot stop someone from taking an ordinary screenshot with their own computer, and neither can Google Meet, Zoom or Teams. Before you share something people must not keep, say so, and ask the host to turn captures off.
Extension permissions
- activeTab: lets Pinpoint work on the tab where you click its icon, and take a picture of that tab when you mark an area. It gives no access to other tabs.
- scripting: adds the drawing layer and toolbar to that tab when you click the icon.
- storage: keeps your sign-in and Customise choices in your browser.
Pinpoint’s use of information follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Children
Pinpoint is made for work and study teams. It is not meant for children under 13.
